BIOGRAPHY:

People who are facing divorce, struggling with problems relating to the support and care of their children, or dealing with immigration or criminal law issues, need an attorney who is there for them, who can fight for them, and who will guide them through the complicated maze of their legal
worries with care and skill.

That is where I come in. My name is Maria Lescano, and I have been assisting those in need of help with family law issues, and immigration and criminal law issues, for over 20 years in South Florida. I serve a very diverse ethnic community, including people from the Latin American, Eastern European, and Western European communities. My fluent Spanish and many travels throughout South America and Europe help me to understand and empathize with the people I help.

I am the daughter of Cuban immigrants, and I learned early to be strong, work hard, and fight for myself. I later became an attorney, graduating from Florida State University in 1991 after having received my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1986. My first job out of college was as Legislative Aide to a Florida State Senator. This job opened my eyes to the very interesting world of how laws are made. After graduating from law school I worked at a small law firm for a couple of years before venturing out on my own. I opened my own law firm in 1994, and have been continually providing support to people with family law, immigration, and criminal law issues.

I find family, immigration and criminal law – which often are interrelated – the most rewarding areas because I get to help guide others through a difficult and emotional time. I understand that those people need time and attention, and straight-forward advice, in addition to my legal skills. I am especially passionate about using my lengthy experience and skill to serve those people who have begun to feel hopeless, like those who have been let down by another attorney, or who are made to feel powerless by their spouse or someone else.

One of my prior clients describes it best:

“Maria was an incredibly effective attorney on my case. I was pleasantly surprised at how responsive she was to my needs, and how attentive she was to responding to my texts and emails – even on the weekend. I had a complex case, and Maria helped me through that difficult time, always supporting me. She really knew what she was doing!” – Susan

My passion for helping others extends to my community, too. I was born and raised in South Florida, and I am very involved in my community. I serve as a guardian ad litem – fighting for the rights of children. I am active in the Florida Bar, and I contribute my time and knowledge to charitable organizations.
